Ishmil Waterman is a conceptual artist, composite/retouch artist, and photographer.
He lives in Toronto and works internationally constantly satisfying his undying wanderlust. Raised in Brampton Ontario, and born of Trinidadian parents who's consciousness stood firmly rooted the black power movements of the '60s & '70s, Ishmil's upbringing was one emphasized in knowledge of self, self-mastery, and the initiation of profound self-love. At an early age, his mother introduced him to the self-actualization and reverence of the 'I Am' through the teachings of Islam, Taoism, Hinduism, and the Gospel of Yeshua Hamashiach. It is indeed thanks to these teachings that Ishmil conceals wisdom of geometry and stories of creation itself in his compositions, seldom as the surface of the artwork, but rather as the map that the artwork is constructed upon. With a deep knowledge of the occult and an exhaustive approach to marrying the forgotten with the unknown, Ishmil's art emphasizes the fractal nature of mind and explores the mystery, history, imminence of melanated peoples.
